On February 22nd, Auburn Outdoors hosted the annual Auburn Ascent Climbing Competition at the rock wall. The event brought climbers from the University of Alabama, University of Alabama Huntsville, Georgia Southern University, University of Georgia, Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Western Carolina University, Jefferson State Community College, Clemson, and your Auburn University as well as welcoming independent climbers.
The Auburn Outdoors student staff cleared every climbing route on the wall before setting 32 new top ropes and 32 new boulder routes in a week for a fair competition for all participants!
The event ended with an award ceremony for the best climbers in each category of Recreational, Intermediate, or Advanced, a taco dinner, and giveaways. With donations from Montgomery Whitewater, Bluewater Ropes, Alabama Outdoors, Birmingham Boulders, Mama Mochas, Coffee Mafia, Osprey, Black Diamond, Mountain Smith, and 25 other companies, every participant was able to take home a prize. Among the items awarded were free coffee, coupons for adventure trips, an Auburn-Opelika souvenir basket, stickers, bags, ropes, carabiners, cups, beanies, climbing chalk, harnesses, hats, t-shirts, jorts, and more.
